XAUUSD Flushes Below $4,030: Oversold Gold Could Rebound Into the $4,065 Imbalance

Gold has extended its decline into a major support area around $4,000 after breaking below $4,030. The broader structure remains bearish, but the latest move is becoming increasingly stretched. Price is pressing beneath the lower Bollinger Band on both timeframes, while the daily Williams %R has entered oversold territory. This combination raises the risk of a corrective rebound, with the $4,030–$4,065 region now becoming the first major recovery zone.

XAUUSD Daily Chart Analysis

On the daily chart, XAUUSD remains firmly inside the corrective structure that has been developing since the August rebound toward the $4,650–$4,700 region.

Price continues to trade beneath a clear descending trendline, while the sequence of lower highs confirms that sellers still control the broader structure. The latest bearish leg has now pushed gold through the $4,065 and $4,030 support levels, bringing the market directly toward the psychologically important $4,000 region.

The move is technically significant because price is now trading around — and briefly beneath — the lower Bollinger Band. During the previous stages of the decline, moves toward the lower band were generally followed by at least a temporary stabilisation or mean-reversion attempt. The current extension outside the band therefore suggests that bearish momentum remains strong, but also increasingly stretched.

The Williams %R (14) reinforces that view. The indicator currently stands near -88.00, placing it well inside oversold territory below the -80 threshold. This confirms the intensity of the selling pressure, but it also warns that the downside move may be approaching a point where sellers begin to lose momentum.

Importantly, oversold conditions alone do not signal a trend reversal. Gold remains below the descending trendline and beneath the Bollinger middle band, so the larger daily structure is still bearish. However, with price testing $4,000 while momentum is deeply oversold, the probability of a corrective rebound is increasing.

The first recovery hurdle is $4,030. A move back above this level would suggest that the breakdown is beginning to lose momentum and could extend the rebound toward $4,065.

The $4,065 area is particularly important because it now combines previous support with descending trendline resistance. A sustained move above that zone would be needed before the daily structure could begin to show a more meaningful bullish improvement.

Key Levels:

  • $4,000: Major psychological support and the immediate downside floor.
  • $4,030: First resistance and initial recovery target.
  • $4,065: Key resistance and descending trendline area.
  • Above $4,065: First indication that the current bearish leg is losing structural control.

XAUUSD 4-Hour Chart Analysis

The 4-hour chart highlights just how aggressive the latest selloff has become.

Gold broke sharply beneath $4,065 before accelerating through $4,030, producing a strong bearish impulse that pushed price toward the $4,000 level. The move also drove XAUUSD decisively beneath the lower Bollinger Band, leaving price heavily extended from its short-term mean.

That type of expansion often reflects strong directional momentum, but it also increases the probability of a corrective snapback once selling pressure starts to cool.

The latest candles around $4,000 show the first attempt to stabilise after the breakdown. Price briefly traded beneath this psychological level before rebounding back above it, indicating that buyers are beginning to respond to the stretched conditions.

The selloff has also left a clear fair value gap between approximately $4,030 and $4,065. This imbalance becomes particularly relevant if gold begins to recover. After an aggressive displacement lower, price often revisits part of the inefficiently traded area before deciding whether the larger trend will resume.

That makes $4,030 the first short-term target for a rebound. A recovery above this level would bring the lower part of the FVG into play, while further strength could extend toward $4,065, where the top of the imbalance and previous support converge.

The Bollinger Bands support the same short-term interpretation. Price is currently stretched well below the lower band, while the middle band remains considerably higher. This does not invalidate the bearish trend, but it does suggest that the current move has become vulnerable to mean reversion.

XAUUSD Recovery Scenario

The broader trend remains bearish, but gold is now trading in an increasingly stretched technical condition.

On the daily chart, Williams %R has fallen deep into oversold territory while price is pressing against the lower Bollinger Band and the major $4,000 support region. On the 4-hour chart, the latest selloff has pushed price significantly outside the lower Bollinger Band and created a fair value gap between $4,030 and $4,065.

A sustained hold above $4,000 could therefore trigger a corrective rebound toward $4,030. If buyers reclaim that level, the next target would be the $4,030–$4,065 FVG, with $4,065 representing the more important resistance.

The key distinction is that such a move would initially remain a corrective recovery, not a confirmed bullish reversal. The broader bearish structure would only begin to weaken materially if gold can reclaim $4,065 and break above the descending daily trendline.

For now, sellers remain in control — but with momentum deeply oversold and price stretched below its Bollinger Bands, the risk of a short-term rebound is rising.

Recovery path: $4,000 holds → $4,030 → FVG at $4,030–$4,065.
