XAUUSD: Bearish Pressure Builds Below 4398 Pivot

In this comprehensive analysis, Ultima Markets brings you an insightful breakdown of XAUUSD for September 11, 2026.

Technical Analysis of XAUUSD

XAUUSD Daily Chart Insight

(XAUUSD Daily Chart, Source: Ultima Markets MT5)

XAUUSD carries a neutral-to-bearish daily bias after the August rebound toward 4,672.50 was followed by a renewed pullback to 4,337.76. Price has fallen below the red 16-period moving average and the blue 100-period moving average while remaining above the rising purple 50-period moving average. The MA16 has started to turn lower, the MA50 continues to rise, and the MA100 remains comparatively flat to lower, leaving the broader structure mixed despite the current selling pressure.

Sellers therefore retain the immediate advantage, but the 4,257.50 area around the MA50 remains an important support for the broader recovery structure. A sustained recovery through the 4,423.50–4,506.50 resistance region would be required to restore stronger bullish momentum, while a break below 4,257.50 would strengthen the bearish case.

Key Levels:

  • Support 1 (4,257.50): Immediate support around the rising purple MA50 and the lower boundary of the recent recovery structure.
  • Support 2 (4,174.50): The next visible support area below the MA50 and around the previous breakout region.
  • Support 3 (4,091.50): A major lower support area within the July consolidation structure.
  • Resistance 1 (4,423.50): Immediate resistance near the blue MA100 and the recent daily consolidation zone.
  • Resistance 2 (4,506.50): A higher resistance area around the red MA16 and the recent rebound ceiling.
  • Resistance 3 (4,672.50): The visible August swing-high region and the main upside barrier.

XAUUSD 2-Hour Chart Analysis

(XAUUSD 2-Hour Chart, Source: Ultima Markets MT5)

XAUUSD maintains a bearish 2-hour bias, with price at 4,337.01 trading below the red 16-period moving average, purple 50-period moving average, and blue 100-period moving average. The MA16 is falling sharply beneath the other averages, while both the MA50 and MA100 are also tilting lower, reinforcing short-term seller control.

The latest decline pushed price below the 4,352.20–4,332.10 area before a modest rebound emerged from near 4,312.00, but the recovery remains limited beneath the moving-average cluster around 4,392.40–4,412.50. RSI at 39.63 remains below the midpoint, indicating that momentum is still weak despite the rebound. A temporary pause or corrective recovery is possible after the recent decline, but the bearish structure remains intact unless price can reclaim the overhead moving averages.

Breakout Scenarios:

  • Bullish continuation is a possible counter-trend scenario, triggered by a decisive break and hold above 4,412.50. This could open the way toward 4,432.60 and then 4,452.70.
  • Bearish correction is the higher-probability outcome if price fails to hold 4,332.10 and subsequently breaks below 4,312.00. This would expose the next visible downside area around 4,291.90.

XAUUSD Pivot Indicator

(XAUUSD 30-Minute Chart, Source: Trading Central)

XAUUSD is trading around 4,318 on the 30-minute chart, well below the main pivot at 4,398, keeping the immediate bias bearish. Price remains under pressure near the lower Bollinger Band after a persistent decline, while RSI has fallen to 27.57 and MACD stands at -17.65. Both indicators confirm weak downside momentum conditions, although the depressed RSI suggests the decline could experience a temporary rebound before the next directional move.

  • Bearish Breakdown: The bearish preference remains active while price stays below the 4,398 pivot. Continued weakness could target 4,281 first, followed by 4,250. Confirmation would come from RSI remaining near its current 27.57 reading and MACD holding below zero around -17.65.
  • Bullish Reversal: A decisive recovery above 4,398 would weaken the immediate bearish structure and open the way toward 4,449 and then 4,480. Confirmation would require RSI to recover from 27.57 while MACD turns higher from -17.65 toward the zero line.
