Ultima Markets Daily Market Insights – March 6, 2026
As a chaotic week of trading comes to a halt, as global markets are shifting their focus from the battlefields of the Middle East back to the US macroeconomic data. While the geopolitical situation remains a massive wildcard, the immediate panic has subsided enough for traders to brace for today’s main event: the US Non-Farm Payrolls (NFP) report.
With the US Dollar hovering near key resistance levels and global equities still vulnerable, tonight’s employment data will serve as the ultimate tiebreaker for the Federal Reserve’s “Higher for Longer” rate path.
US-Iran Tensions: A Cautious Pause
Before diving into the macro data, a brief look at the geopolitical landscape shows a temporary stabilization in the energy markets.
Following the White House’s announcement of US Navy escorts for commercial vessels earlier this week, crude oil has moved into a high-level consolidation phase. The immediate threat of a catastrophic supply disruption in the Strait of Hormuz has been priced out for now.
However, the conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran remains highly fluid. Traders are simply taking a breather, though the war risk premium continues to keep a firm floor under oil prices.
The NFP Showdown: Make or Break for the Dollar
With oil prices temporarily capped, the US Dollar’s next major directional move hinges entirely on today’s February NFP report. Following Wednesday’s solid ADP print (+63K vs. 50K consensus), expectations are leaning toward a resilient labor market.
However, NFP Consensus expects a mere 59K jobs added (a sharp drop from the prior 130K).
The Scenarios:
The “Hot” Print (Bullish USD): If the NFP numbers significantly beat expectations and wage growth remains sticky, it will completely validate the Fed’s hawkish stance. A strong labor market means the Fed cannot cut rates to save struggling equities. This scenario would spark a massive rally in the US Dollar as yields spike.
The “Cold” Print (Bearish USD): If the data severely misses to the downside, it will amplify the “Stagflation” narrative. A cracking labor market paired with fear of high inflation (due to energy) is the worst-case scenario. The Dollar could face heavy selling pressure, while Gold would likely catch a massive safe-haven bid.
US Dollar Technical Outlook
The Greenback has been the ultimate beneficiary of this week’s chaos, absorbing both safe-haven flows and hawkish Fed expectations. Now, it faces a massive technical hurdle.
USDX, H4 Chart | Ultima Markets MT5
The US Dollar Index (USDX) continues to apply heavy pressure on the psychological 99.00 – 99.30 major resistance zone, which aligns with January’s high. A breakout of this level would require a decisive catalyst.
If today’s NFP data comes in hot, a daily close above this resistance level would confirm another major bullish breakout, opening the door for a rapid climb toward 100.00. Conversely, if the data disappoints, the Dollar will likely reject this ceiling and slide back toward the immediate 98.80 support floor.
A break below the 98.80 immediate support would invalidate the recent rally, sending the Dollar back into its broader consolidation zone.
EUR/USD: Vulnerable, But Support is There
While the US Dollar flexes its muscles, major currency pairs like EUR/USD are feeling the heat. European markets have taken a heavier hit from the global equity slump, and the Euro is struggling to find any bullish catalysts.
EURUSD, Daily Chart | Ultima Markets MT5
Despite its vulnerability, major support for EUR/USD remains intact at the 1.1600 level, converging with the 200-day moving average.
If the NFP does not provide enough fuel for the Dollar, EUR/USD could see a support bounce off this level, especially with 1.1600 acting as a major psychological barrier, followed by 1.1500 as the next critical floor. This would keep the pair trading within its current broader range.
AUD/USD: Commodities Bids
As a highly commodity-sensitive currency, the Australian Dollar has caught a strong bid, with AUD/USD holding firmly above the 0.7000 – 0.7100 range, near a 3-year high.
Its reluctance to move lower signals underlying strength in AUD/USD, meaning a weaker US Dollar could send the pair even higher.
AUDUSD, H4 Chart | Ultima Markets MT5
A weak NFP print could spark Dollar weakness, potentially driving the pair upward to challenge the major 0.7100 ceiling. Conversely, if today’s NFP data comes in hot and supercharges the US Dollar, expect AUD/USD to break firmly below the 0.7000 floor.
What to Watch Today
US Non-Farm Payrolls & Unemployment Rate (8:30 AM ET): The undisputed main event of the week. Watch the headline job creation number, but pay equally close attention to Average Hourly Earnings. Sticky wage growth will cement the “Higher for Longer” inflation narrative and boost the Dollar.
Weekend Headline Risks (Geopolitics):Volatility Warning: No one wants to be caught on the wrong side of a weekend war headline. As we approach the Friday close, expect highly erratic price action and heavy profit-taking across Oil, Gold, and Equities as institutional traders flatten their books to avoid holding massive risk over the weekend.
