Ultima Markets Daily Market Insights – 26 March 2026
Global markets are closing the week on a highly volatile note this Friday. The fragile optimism surrounding a potential Middle East ceasefire has shattered following Iran’s official denial of any ongoing negotiations with the US.
This sudden reversal has instantly reinjected the geopolitical risk premium back into the markets. Oil prices are surging on renewed supply fears, the US Dollar is reclaiming its safe-haven status, and US equities are facing heavy selling pressure ahead of the weekend.
The geopolitical landscape has rapidly deteriorated over the past 24 hours. Despite earlier claims from the US administration regarding active peace talks, Iran has categorically denied any direct or indirect negotiations aimed at a 30-day ceasefire.
This stark contradiction has completely wiped out the recent de-escalation narrative. Traders have been forced to violently reprice the “war premium” back into the energy sector, fearing that a resumption of retaliatory strikes on critical infrastructure is now imminent.
UKOUSD, H4 Chart | Ultima Markets MT5
Brent Crude (UKOUSD) has experienced a sharp bullish continuation, bouncing aggressively off its recent support zones near $96.00–$100.00. The fundamental threat to the Strait of Hormuz and broader Middle Eastern supply chains is once again the dominant driver of price action.
In the near term, with Brent remaining elevated above this key support zone, the upside remains the path of least resistance for now.
If weekend headline risks continue to point towards military escalation, expect Oil to maintain a strong upward trajectory, potentially targeting previous parabolic highs.
US Dollar and Equities: Safe-Haven Bids Return Amidst Yield Pressure
The collapse of the ceasefire narrative has triggered a classic “risk-off” rotation across global markets. Capital is rapidly fleeing risk assets and rotating back into the perceived safety of the US Dollar, which is once again acting as the market’s primary geopolitical hedge.
For US equities, the outlook is turning increasingly grim. The major indices are being squeezed by a toxic combination of geopolitical fear and stubbornly high US Treasury yields. The surge in Oil prices is also reigniting stagflation fears, as higher energy costs threaten to keep inflation elevated and force the Federal Reserve to maintain its restrictive “Higher for Longer” stance.
Several key Fed officials also reiterated the “Higher for Longer” stance due to the uncertainty and inflation risks stemming from the energy market.
NAS100, Daily Chart | Ultima Markets MT5
The Nasdaq 100 has formed a near-term bearish structure, sliding under the weight of renewed risk aversion and officially entering a bear market zone. The index is currently facing strong pressure following the breakdown of the 24,000-point level.
Our outlook on the Nasdaq 100 remains the same as we covered earlier. If the market fails to regain its footing, continued downward pressure will expose major downside targets. Equities remain highly vulnerable to further risk-off selling pressure.
USDX, H4 Chart | Ultima Markets MT5
Meanwhile, over on the Dollar Index, safe-haven bids have pushed the Dollar back above the 99.30 mark, which can be identified as a pivot point for bulls and bears. At this point, the Dollar Index may face pressure below the 100.00 major psychological level, but the downside may be temporarily capped by current momentum.
The overall outlook for the Dollar remains a bullish to consolidation bias.
Gold Outlook: Dip on Yield Surges
Over in Gold, yesterday saw another dip driven by surging US Treasury yields, with the 10-year yield surging to 4.40%, a fresh 8-month high.
XAUUSD, H4 Chart | Ultima Markets MT5
Coupled with the technical outlook, Gold is facing pressure near the $4,600 resistance zone that we covered earlier.
Still, the outlook for Gold remains stable given that the recent falls have potentially found a bottom near the $4,200 support level, where we are seeing buying momentum step in.
In the near term, Gold is likely to stay consolidated within its current range, while $4,400 could act as a short-term pivot for intraday bulls and bears. For now, Gold may be tilted towards a consolidation phase as it awaits a broader breakout.
What to Watch Today
Revised US Consumer Sentiment (10.00 am ET): Markets will monitor this data to gauge how the US consumer is holding up against the dual threats of high interest rates and surging energy prices.
Geopolitical Headline Risk (All Day): With the weekend approaching and diplomatic talks seemingly dead in the water, traders will be hyper-sensitive to any military developments in the Middle East. Expect extreme volatility and potential gap risks at the Monday open.
