米連邦準備制度理事会（FRB）は金融政策を決める会合を開き、18日、政策金利を0.5ポイント引き下げ、5％と決定した。利下げの決定発表後、当初ドルは下落したが、FRBパウエル議長の記者会見後に下げ幅を回復した。結局、不安定な取引の後、ドル指数は0.08%下落し100.93で引けた。

パウエル議長は記者会見で、近い将来に景気後退や景気低迷が起こるとは考えていないと強調した。FRBの主な目標は、失業率の上昇を防ぎながらインフレ率を安定させることだ。パウエル議長はまた、0.5ポイントの大幅な利下げは、これらの目標達成に対するFRBの強い決意の表れだと述べた。 

米大統領選の共和党候補、ドナルド・トランプ前大統領は利下げについて「大きな利下げ」とコメントし、FRBが政治的な駆け引きをしているのでなければ、このような大幅な利下げは景気が非常に悪いのだろうと述べた。 

さらに、政策金利は今年末までにさらに0.5ポイントの利下げが行われ、2026年までにさらに合計1.5ポイントの利下げが行われ、最終的には2.75～3.00％の範囲まで低下するとFRBの参加者が想定されている。
