16日、米国市場は主要な株価指数が上昇し、ダウ平均は2日続伸して742.76ポイント（1.85％）高と、昨年6月以来の1日の最高値を更新した。S&P500指数は0.64％上昇し、ナスダックは0.21％上昇した。市場のセンチメントは主に米連邦準備制度理事会（FRB）による利下げ観測に左右されている。注目ポイントは大型株から小型株へと移り、工業株が買いをリードした。ダウ平均構成銘柄のキャタピラー(CAT.US)が4.28％、ボーイング(BA.US)が3.87％急伸した。 

企業の決算発表が市場の起爆剤に。ユナイテッドヘルス・グループ(UNH.US)は予想を上回り6.5％高となり、ダウ平均をさらに押し上げた。バンク・オブ・アメリカ・コーポレーション(BAC.US)は好業績と収益で5.35％上昇し、モルガン・スタンレー(MS.US)は取引と投資銀行業務がウォール街を上回る予想で0.91％上昇した。これに対し、チャールズ・シュワブ(SCHW.US)は、預金残高が17％減の2,524億米ドルとなり、純金利収入も6％減少したため、10.18％下落した。
