英中銀　金利を引き下げ、銀行株は売り圧力の強まりで苦戦 

英国イングランド銀行（BOE）は8月の金融政策委員会で、政策金利を0.25ポイント引き下げ5.0％とすることを発表した。これまで1年間政策金利が据え置かれていたため、今回の決定は非常に難航し、16年ぶりの高水準にあった政策金利が引き下げられた。金融政策委員会（MPC）では、9人中4人の委員が政策金利の維持を支持していたため、今回の決定を「微妙なバランス」と表現した。 

委員会は、全体的なインフレ率が目標値に向かって下方修正される見込みであることに言及した。この利下げ結果を受けて、投資家はさらに0.35ポイントの利下げに賭けるなど、利下げへの期待を高めた。しかし、英中銀のベイリー総裁は、国内インフレが定着することを懸念し、「早すぎたり、幅が大きすぎる」利下げににならないよう注意が必要だと声明で述べた。

1日、FTSE100指数は前日の上昇から一転して下降に転じ、様々な企業決算が発表される中、1.01％安の8,283ポイントで取引を終えた。一方、ポンド対ドル相場は1.28ドル台に値を落とす場面が見られ、1ヶ月ぶりの安値をつけた。 

数少ない明るい材料としては、英衣料小売業者のネクストが四半期見通しを上方修正し、8.3％の急騰を見せた。また、高級自動車メーカー、ロールス・ロイスは、好調な決算を発表し、今後の業績見通しを上方修正し、来年の配当再開を約束したため、その株価が7％の急騰となった。 

しかし、市場全体は弱気だった。航空宇宙企業メルローズの株価は、予想を上回る決算報告にもかかわらず、売上高ガイダンスを38億ポンドに下方修正したため、指数の最下位に12％以上急落した。資産運用会社のシュローダーも業績不振で投資家を失望させ、株価は9.7％大幅安となった 

銀行・金融セクターは総じて売り圧力にさらされ、指数の下落を加速させた。ナショナル・ウェストミンスター・バンクの株価は8.1%下落し、HSBCは6.5%下落した。スタンダード・チャータードは6%下落、ロイズ・バンキング・グループは5.7%下落、バークレイズは4.7%下落、プルデンシャル・ファイナンシャルは4.5%下落した。
