堅調な米小売売上高で、ドル指数が急伸 

2024年3月、米国の小売業の売上高は前月比0.7％の増加となった。これは2月改定値の0.9%増に続き、予想の0.3%増を大幅に上回った。この数字は、個人消費が堅調に推移していることを示している。 

主要13業種別の中、8業種別の売上高が増加した。オンライン小売りを含む「無店舗小売り」が2.7％増、ガソリンスタンドが2.1％増、雑貨が2.1％増、建材・園芸用品が0.7％増となった。また、食料品は0.5％増、ヘルスケアは0.4％増、外食も0.4％増となった。 

一方、スポーツ用品・趣味用品、楽器・書店などは1.8％減、衣料品は1.6％減、電子機器は1.2％減、総合小売店は1.1％減、自動車・部品は0.9％減、家具は0.3％の減少であった。外食、自動車、ガソリン、建築資材を除くと、GDP算出に寄与するコア小売売上高は1.1％の大幅増となった。

月曜日、米ドル指数は106を上回り、5ヵ月以上ぶりの高値をつけた。堅調な米国経済の兆しが強まり、米連邦準備制度理事会（FRB）が現行の金利を長期間維持するのではないかという憶測が広がったことが要因だ。さらに、イランによるイスラエル攻撃で中東情勢が緊迫化し、先行き不透明な状況下で米ドルが選好されたことも後押しとなった。しかし、テヘランもテルアビブも直ちに報復行動を取るとは考えていないことが示されたため、市場の不安は緩和された。
