ニュージーランドの国内総生産（GDP）は、第3四半期の0.3％減に続き、第4四半期も0.1％減となり、市場予想の0.1％増を下回った。過去5四半期に4回の景気後退があり、卸売業の縮小（第3四半期の2.2％減から第4四半期は1.8％減）と小売業の不振（第3四半期の0.4％減から第4四半期は0.9％減）が主な原因である。 

業種別では、賃貸、人材派遣、不動産、公共・安全、防衛など、16業種中8業種が上昇を記録した。さらに、国内総生産（GDP）は前期比の0.6％減に続き0.3％減となった。

木曜日の前場、ニュージーランドを代表する株価指数S&P/NZX 50は、46.43ポイント（0.39％）下落し、3日ぶりの下落で、11,811.82ポイントで取引を終えた。トレーダーは、ニュージーランドが2023年第4四半期にテクニカルリセッションに陥るとの最新統計を悲観的に受け止め、売り圧力を強めた。さらに、ニュージーランドドルは対米ドルで0.605ドルを割り込み、過去4ヵ月で最安値に近づいた。
